Cartier mid sized tank Stirling 925 Silver Gilt mechanical art deco style wristwatch circa 1970s
A classic cartier original mechanical wristwatch with a rarer art deco styling to the face. Square in design with solid silver Stirling 925 grade gilded case. Larger than the traditional size ladies watch so we are calling it his/hers. So to explain the case is actually solid silver and 20 micron 18k gold plated on top. A very heavy layer designed to last.
It is thought that the name "tank or tank watch" was originally adopted by cartier during ww1 where the design was said to have been based on the first military armoured tanks! Combined with the cubism artist design aspect. So not quite square neither rectangular and broad shoulders. We imagine the gilded cases were to suggest no visual difference between silver gilt or solid 18k gold although solid gold versions are scarce and 5 x the price.
This watch is an original vintage mechanical watch and not quartz battery-powered so daily winding is required. The dial has an interesting design combined art deco and nuveou roman numerals and mixed markers with two tone sectors.
The watch has been fully serviced and a new 17mm strap fitted. Comes with green display box
